Board Members:

Dr. Tenzin Namdul was born and raised in India till he started globetrotting in late 90s. He holds a doctorate degree in Tibetan medicine fromMen-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical & Astrological Institute of H.H. the Dalai Lama) in India. After graduating from MTK in 1996, Namdul has been actively engaged in teaching Tibetan medicine, giving consultation, and attending medical conferences around the world. He is one of the core members of clinical research department at MTK and has served as a director till he took a study leave in January 2009. Other than publishing numerous scientific papers, he has written a book, “Tibetan Medical Dietary Book - I.” He was awarded the Gold Medal by Indian Board of Alternative Medicine in 2001 in recognition of his work in the field of research and promotion of Alternative medicine. Namdul is also a co-founder and board members of “Tibetan Children’s Fund” based in Netherlands. Currently, while pursuing further study at the University of Minnesota, Namdul is juggling his time in U.S., Europe, and India.

Phuntsok Chomphel has been in thick-of-action since his school days. Phuntsok is known for his activism and hard working nature among his friends. He was the president of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetan Student’s Association at Baroda University in 2005 and is currently one of the active members of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Dharamshala, India. After finishing his Masters degree in modern history, he pursued his interest by attending numerous workshops and training in Leadership, Human Rights and Democracy, Gender Equality and Development, HIV/AIDS, and other social issues. Since April 2007, Phuntsok has dedicated himself to the work of CHOICE in combating HIV in Tibetan community and cementing care and support program for Tibetan people living with HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Dawa Tsering is a Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile. He was one of the three MPs directly appointed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the 13th Tibetan Parliament. He was then elected from the Utsang constituency for the 14th Parliament. His parents brought him into exile when he was only five. His dedication and contribution in social welfare was recognized with Unsung Hero Award in San-Francisco, USA in 2001 and Best Social Service Activist award by Tibetan Youth Congress in 1999.
He joined the Tibetan Youth Congress in 1971; served as peon initially and then as secretary from 1977 to 83; group leader of McLeod Ganj Youth Congress, 1979-82; executive member of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress from 1983-1986; and cashier-cum-accountant in Tibetan Medical & Astrological Institute from 1983-1992.
Mr. Dawa Tsering founded Youngling Creche and Kindergarten school in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala on 1984. He was also founder of Tibetan Jewish Youth Exchange Program and Rokyor Gyalshen Lhenzom. He was also member-cum-advisor of Indo Tibetan Friendship Association and Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, Dharamshala 1995. In 2005 Mr. Tsering initiated Buddhist Introductory Teaching for public on Sundays. Besides he also started Tibetan Unemployment Co-operative Society in 2003 which still functions by giving job opportunity to newly arrived Tibetan refugees from Tibet.

Ms. Tsering Paldon is one of the founding members of the CHOICE—HIV/AIDS Initiative. Ms. Paldon has a RNRN degree. She also has an Advance Nursing Degree from George Mason University, Virginia, US in 1994 through full bright scholarship. During 1983 to 1998, she took charge as Chief Matron at Tibetan Delek Hospital. Ms. Paldon also served as General Secretary-cum-Nurse at Special Need Children at Dheradun for five years. Since 2005, she has been appointing for Public Health Manger in Tibetan Delek Hospital. In recognition of her devotion to health sector for more than 25 years, Ms. Paldon received the prestigious service award from Central Tibetan Administration in 2008.

Mr. Karma Yeshi did B.A. Hons. B.Ed and Interpreter-ship in language from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He served as full time teacher at Central School for Tibetans, Puruwala from 1990–1994. In 1995, he got elected as Vice President of Tibetan Youth Congress in its ninth General Body Meeting. He again got re-elected as Vice President of TYC in the year 1998. During his six years term as Vice President of TYC. In July 2004 he got elected as Member of Parliament of the 13th house of Tibetan parliament-in-exile in its bye-election and again got re-elected as Member of Parliament to the 14th house of Tibetan parliament-in-exile in May 2006. Besides, he is an Editor-in-Chief of Voice of Tibet radio news service since March 2003. He is also a member of the board of directors of Tibetan Centre for Human Rights & Democracy and Tibetan Centre for Conflict Resolution both based in Dharamshala.

Dr. Yangzom Dolkar is a medical officer at Tibetan Delek Hospital, only Tibetan-run-hospital in India. She joined the hospital in 2006. Dr. Yangzom completed her secondary education from Tibetan Children Village School (TCV), upper Dharamshala, H.P. India.
Since childhood it was Dr. Yangzom’s dream to become a doctor and joined the Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi. She received special training in Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital, at New Delhi where she specialize herself in childcare and adolescents.

Mr. Lobsang Yeshi an alumni of SFF Tibetan School Herbertpur, Joined Punjab University and obtained Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Government College, Chandigarh. He worked as the General Secretary of TFM (1990-1991) and President of RTYC, Chandigarh (1991-1992). From 1992-94, he worked as a teacher in Tibetan School at Paonta Sahib and from 1994-99, he worked in Delhi based Tibetan Affairs Monitor and Research Unit as translator. He also worked as an English teacher in Sera-Jhe Higher Secondary School at Bylakuppe from 1999-2004. From 2001 to 2007 for two terms consecutively elected for Central Executive Committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), where he worked as Organizational Secretary and Vice-President. During the last year he also served President of TYC. In year 2007 he also sought Training of Trainer on Gender Sensitization organized by Tibetan Women’s Association (Centrex). Presently he is Independent Researcher and special resource person for CHOICE and look over CHOICE’s activities at five major Tibetan settlements in south India.

Mr. Tenzin Dondul joined CHOICE—HIV/AIDS Initiative on Oct. 2009 as Project Co-ordinator-cum-Office Assitant. Mr. Dondul did his secondary education from T.C.V Gopalpur and later obtained his Degree in Bachelor of Arts (History Honors) from Loyola College, Chennai. Currently he is doing M.A History through correspondence course in International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning under H.P. Univeristy.

Mr. Norbu Damdul is 23 years old school dropout and HIV/AIDS victim. After much hardship and death of his wife Mr. Damdul joined CHOICE—HIV/AIDS Initiative in 2008. He did not dishearten himself after knowing his HIV positive status and decided to join in our fight against this disease. He is currently participating in HIV/AIDS awareness tours organized by CHOCIE—HIV/AIDS Initiative as resource person giving his life testimony and challenges faced. Moreover he is also peer educator to other Tibetan People infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
